About me.
I'm Luc Rulmont, a pre-medical student in Santa Barbara. I did not start college on this path. I began as an electrical engineering major because the coursework felt stable and practical, but I struggled to find real passion in it. One afternoon, sitting outside a coding class I had put off, I realized I had been neglecting an interest that had always been present: medicine.
That interest is deeply personal. My grandfather is a recovered alcoholic who became an internist specializing in alcohol and drug dependency. Watching him bring so much passion and love into his work was inspiring. I see a lot of myself in him. When I am able to help someone who needs me, I feel a sense of happiness and peace unlike anything else. The path is hard, but achieving that feeling at the highest level of academia is something I could not pass up.
It was not always easy. I struggled early on to catch up after changing direction, but through hard work and passion I found opportunities I now enjoy every day.
I am grateful to be on this path. I do not yet know which medical specialty I will pursue, and I am at peace with that uncertainty. What I do know is that I want to find the same love and passion my grandfather found in his work, and channel it toward giving back to communities in need.

This site is more than a collection of accomplishments. It is a way for me to share the intentions behind my work and the path I am still building. Every section is written to be accessible, intentional, and easy to scan, so readers can quickly understand what I have done and why it matters.
Why I created this page
I created this portfolio as a single place where admissions committees, research labs, clinical employers, and community collaborators can understand who I am beyond a resume. It brings together my clinical experiences, research, leadership, and instruction into one coherent story. My goal is to show what I have done and how each experience has shaped the way I think about medicine, access, responsibility, and the kind of physician I hope to become.
Why I chose this platform
I chose to build this site from scratch because the process itself is part of the skill set I want to develop. Medicine requires clear communication, careful organization, and the ability to explain complex ideas to people who may not share your background. Designing this portfolio has pushed me to be articulate, professional, and clear. I have tried to be thorough throughout, because communicating well is central to good patient care, good science, and the trust that makes both possible.
A little more about me
Outside of school and work, I stay active through sports and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and I pay close attention to my physical and mental health. Those habits keep me grounded. I believe the person I am outside of medicine will shape the physician I become within it. Balance, discipline, and humility are part of the career I am pursuing. Taking care of myself is how I prepare to take care of others.
